CWT Journal – August 8, 2026 / Avignon

Today's race took us through more breathtaking scenery along the Gorges de l'Ardèche, where the emerald-green Ardèche River winds through towering limestone cliffs before reaching the famous Pont d'Arc. It was another busy medical day, with several head injuries—including two runners who earned souvenir staples instead of T-shirts.

Later we explored the walled city of Avignon, home to the magnificent Palace of the Popes, where seven popes ruled the Catholic Church during the 14th century. We also learned how Avignon remained under papal control long after the rest of France, until it was swept into France during the French Revolution in 1791. Walking its medieval streets felt like stepping through centuries of history, from papal power to revolutionary change. Another unforgettable day of adventure, medicine, and history.
