CWT Journal – August 5, 2026 / Tain-l'Hermitage

We woke up in Tain-l'Hermitage for one of the toughest Race2Adventure courses yet, with plenty of challenging climbs. It also turned into our busiest medical day of the trip. Mom repaired a small laceration aboard the ship, while another runner suffered a more serious fall, sustaining a full-thickness laceration above her right eye along with a concussion. Dad and his medical colleague, Maria Winther, spent the day caring for the runner and her sister, accompanying them through the French healthcare system. We were impressed by how efficient and compassionate the care was, and even saw nitrous oxide used to make the facial laceration repair more comfortable. Afterward, we reunited with the S.S. Catherine in Viviers, making a stop in Montélimar—the nougat capital of France. It was a day that reminded us that adventure sometimes brings unexpected challenges, but also remarkable people and memorable experiences.
